Cruise from Opatija to Dubrovnik with Avangard
One of Croatia's oldest resorts, the elegant coastal town of Opatija is located in the northern part of the coast. It's a great place to start your romantic journey onboard a luxurious small ship towards the south, especially if you are planning to see as much as possible during the 7-night cruise. On the way down to Dubrovnik you will have a chance to explore both well known places like Zadar, Trogir, Korčula and some hidden gems that often go overlooked: Šibenik, Rab and Metković, Croatia's answer to California.
Departure at 13:00h towards Rab, famously known as the island of love, with its charming old town of the same name. Join a guided walking tour to explore the medieval city walls, the iconic four bell towers, and a delightful mix of palaces, churches, and lively squares. There’s a distinct Montmartre vibe, with local artists painting and exhibiting their work in the open air. After the tour, enjoy a tasting of the legendary Rab cake, a secret recipe originally created by local nuns for a visiting Pope.
After breakfast, set sail for Zadar, Croatia’s oldest university town, rich in world-class heritage. Here, history stares you in the face—from the Roman Forum of the 1st century, to the 9th-century St. Donat church, the city’s most iconic symbol. Explore the mighty city walls, over 30 churches, and the many museums and palaces that line the old town. Zadar has also embraced the modern era with the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun, two award-winning installations on the seafront. Don’t miss the spectacular sunset show, best viewed from the promenade. Guided city tour included.
Wine and waterfalls! Cruise to Skradin, then hop aboard a coach to a local winery for a delightful wine tasting paired with a light tapas-style lunch. Afterwards, visit the stunning Krka National Park, home to the spectacular Skradinski Buk, the most famous of the waterfalls. With 17 cascades spanning up to 100 meters in width and drops totalling 45.7 meters, it’s nature’s drama at its finest. In the afternoon, sail to Šibenik, nestled in the heart of Croatia’s Adriatic coast. Explore the glorious old town, dotted with cultural treasures, including the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St. James— a true Gothic-Renaissance masterpiece. Dinner on board.
Today, continue cruising towards Trogir, a picturesque town often called a “museum city” due to its well preserved medieval architecture. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its narrow cobbled streets, historic buildings, and vibrant waterfront promenade.
Today, discover one of the last remaining wetland deltas in Europe. Cruise to Metković, located on the banks of the Neretva River, after which the delta is named. Here, mandarins grow along peaceful water channels, and the region thrives with rich flora, wild birds, and a unique traditional way of life. Step aboard a barge ride through this lush landscape for a firsthand look into the rhythms of Neretva life—evoking a timeless charm found nowhere else on the coast. Continue to Vid to visit the Narona Archaeological Museum, Croatia’s first in situ museum, built on the remains of a Roman Augusteum. Among its highlights are 17 monumental marble sculptures of Roman emperors and their families. This is where Illyrians, Greeks, and Romans once sailed, and—if the legends are true—where Neretva pirates plotted their raids. In the evening, enjoy the Captain’s dinner with live entertainment onboard.
Departure towards Korčula, the island famed as the birthplace of Marco Polo. Enjoy a swim stop and lunch on board en route. Often called a miniature Dubrovnik, Korčula Town is enclosed in medieval stone ramparts and towers, exuding charm and history. Join a local guide for a tour of the old town, whose streets are laid out in a clever fishbone pattern—a design choice with a fascinating story you’ll hear during your walk. Afterwards, soak in the island vibe in one of the konobas, wine bars, or cocktail lounges.
There’s no better way to approach your final destination, Dubrovnik, than from the sea. One of the few fully walled cities right on the water, its grandeur is best appreciated as you cruise alongside the majestic ramparts. Lunch is served on deck before arriving at Gruž Harbour. Once moored, transfer to the Old Town for a guided walking tour. In your free time, take the cable car to Mt. Srđ (ticket included) for panoramic views of the city and the Elaphiti Islands. Or, explore museums such as Sponza Palace or the Rector’s Palace. If you’re up for it, walk the full 1,940-meter-long city walls, an unforgettable experience.
Gather for one final breakfast on the vessel, followed by goodbyes with the crew and new friends, before they see you off in Dubrovnik.
