Since ancient times it has been known for its honey production, so the name of the island of Molat comes from the Latin word Mellitus - honey. Molat is an island of a turbulent and rich history. It has been inhabited since the 7th century, and remains of flint objects from the Paleolithic have been found on the island. This small island was marked by times of agriculture, repression, violence and plunder by the Venetians, Turks, and Venetians. Today, the island of Molat has about two hundred inhabitants, mainly engaged in agriculture, sheep farming, fishing, and tourism. There are three settlements on the island: Molat, Brgulje, and Zapuntel.
